Geographe Bike Ride
On Sunday the 25th of March 2018, Apex co-ordinated an inaugural family bicycle ride from Busselton to Dunsborough with 70 riders from Busselton and 30 from local cycle clubs. The conditions were fresh and ideal for a leisurely ride along Busselton’s beautiful coastline with rest stops with water refill stations along the way for both young and old to enjoy. All major crossings were kindly marshalled by volunteers from the Geographe Cycle Club, medics were peppered throughout the group and Tail End Charlie was fully stocked with repair gear to ensure everyone arrived safely. The hungry riders were greeted at the finish line with a delicious cooked sausage sizzle and fresh fruit donated by BJ Fruit and Vege and prepared by the Apex Club of Bunbury. Bikes were given a complimentary serviced by the kind folk of Bike Shed Dunsborough thanks to funding provided by the City of Busselton and Bike Week. The Geographe ride was proud to collaborate with Darren’s Ride to fundraise for of Motor Neuron Disease research.
“I am writing to say how much the team from Cornerstone Christian College enjoyed the ride from Busselton to Dunsborough (Sunday, 25 March, 2018). We were impressed by the level of organisation which included technical and first aid support as well as numerous marshalls along the way. The sausage sizzle at the end of the event was generous and very much enjoyed. Please could you convey our appreciation to your team for putting together a fantastic event. We hope that you will be doing this again next year so please keep us posted”
David van der Tang, Cornerstone Christian College
“Congratulations to your and the Bunbury Club for running this valuable citizenship and community exercise. You guys & gals ran a very professional Ride to Dunsborough and I was impressed with the way you handled the safety aspects of the ride. When you get a number of “novice” cyclists at an event like this, it is an unknown how they will behave on the cycleway. Your way of addressing this was handled like the true professional way that I know Apex works, so well done.
As recreational cyclists, we (Geographe Cycle Club) also appreciated your ride induction last Tuesday evening, similar to how we operate with safety for riders the key and fundamental ingredient.
I have not received any negative feedback from our marshals and do not expect much either.
Well done at Apexians – you do the community proud”
